SOUTH DAYTON: Arlene E. Penhollow, 94, of Main Street, South Dayton, died Monday, June 7th, at TLC/HN-Nursing Facility, Irving, following a short illness. She was born in the Town of Villenova on March 29, 1916, the daughter of the late Avery and Ida (Crofoot) Warner.
She was a graduate of the former South Dayton High School, Class of 1933, a graduate of Jamestown Business College as a Medical Secretary and a graduate of the former Roberts Beauty School, Buffalo in 1944. Mrs. Penhollow owned & operated the former Arlene's Beauty Shop in South Dayton, for over 50 years and worked as a Hairdresser for the former Jaquay Funeral Home & the former Pine Valley Funeral Home, Inc., South Dayton. She was a member of South Dayton United Methodist Church, loved sewing, traveling & playing cards and she also enjoyed her grandchildren, family and her dog "Pumpkin".
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Glen D. (Sylvia) Morey, of South Dayton, four step daughters, Ann Jordan, of Cassadaga, Sue Zahm, of Bemus Point, Jane Green, of Lily Dale and Bertha Fredrickson, of Cassadaga. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Jill Wightman Shade, Jace Wightman, Beth Morey, Lisa Morey Lombardo, Jaime Wightman, Lance Morey and Colleen Morey Thomas, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Beside her parents she was predeceased by her 1st husband Henry H. Wightman and 2nd husband Delbert W. Penhollow, by a son Marvin A. Wightman, by a brother Albert Warner, by an infant brother Robert Warner, and by a sister Marguerite Ivett.
There will be no visitation observed.
A Memorial service will be held FRIDAY morning (August 6th) at 11 o’clock from the South Dayton United Methodist Church, Pine Street, South Dayton, with Rev. Bethany Ruane, pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Villenova Cemetery. The family suggests memorials may be made either to the South Dayton United Methodist Church, Pine Street, South Dayton, NY 14138 or to South Dayton Fire Dept.
