FORESTVILLE: Gerald "Bud" S. McCarthy, age 83, of Chestnut Street, Forestville, formerly of Buffalo, died Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 at Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, after a valiant battle with a lengthy illness. He was born in Buffalo on February 23, 1925, the son of the late Thomas W. and Margaret (Murphy) McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy was a graduate of St. Joe's Collegiate High School, Class of 1943, served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WW II as a Radar Radio Operator in the Pacific Theater and he attended the former Chown Business School in Buffalo. Mr. McCarthy retired as Sales Manager for the former Markel Electric in Amherst. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville and was a member of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid golfer, fisherman & bowler. Survivors include his wife of 58 years Alice M. (Wouk) McCarthy of Forestville, nine children, Michael J. (Lydia) McCarthy of Lockport, Nadine R. McCarthy of Forestville, Sean P. McCarthy of Buffalo, Colin J. (Francine) McCarthy of Williamsville, the late Kevin (Yvonne) McCarthy of Silver Creek, Eileen M. (Bernard) Feldmann of Silver Creek, Brian T. (Nadine) McCarthy of Buffalo, Nancy A. McCarthy of Silver Creek, Nora L. (Scott) Gilman of Forestville, 25 grandchildren a brother, Paul V. (Jean) McCarthy of Williamsville and a twin sister Geraldine (the late Edward) Lynch of Royse City, Texas. Also surviving are members of the extended family, Charlie (Debbie) Burgio of West Seneca and many nieces & nephews. Besides his parents and a son, he was predeceased by 3 sisters and 5 brothers. Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Saturday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, from where Prayer Services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock followed by a Mass of Christian Burial from St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Center Street, Forestville, at 11 o'clock, with Rev. Robert G. Beiter officiating. Interment will follow in Forestville Cemetery. Graveside Military Services will be conducted by members of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, Forestville. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Forestville Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad, Chestnut Street, Forestville, NY 14062.
